Eight Month Herbal Intensive

Empower yourself with herbal knowledge

Sierra Institute's Herbal Intensive course meets one weekend a month for 8 months. This course will give you a firm grounding in herbal knowledge and a hands-on learning experience. No previous knowledge is needed, only a real love of herbs. You will be immersed in herbal medicine-making, herb walks, wildcrafting, planting and propagating herbs, wild food preparation, and much more.

The course emphasizes: the foundations of medicinal herbalism, herbal preparations, medicinal formulation, techniques of harvesting, drying and storing herbs, wild plant identification, herb gardening, natural cosmetics, and earth awareness. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.

The materials you will need are included. One of the special features of this course is the personal attention given your lessons. Class time will be spent making the healing formulas, discussing the lesson, learning to identify numerous herbs, and working in the herb garden at Rivendale Ranch. Working together as a group provides synergy and the added benefit of learning from everyone's experiences and questions.

The next intensive will start in January 2009 and meets one weekend each month through August. Total cost is $990. This includes text books and all materials as well as plants for your herb garden. Registration for the intensive should be received by December 1, 2008 to allow time to order supplies and materials. Dates are Jan. 17-18, Feb. 21-22, Mar. 21-22, April 18-19, May 16-17, June 27-28, July 18-19, and Aug. 15-16, 2009.

Mullein
Instructor: Dodie Harte, a public school teacher and herbal educator, has been growing and using herbs since 1981. She was co-founder of Havasu Hills Herb Farm, which was a large herb nursery in central California from 1981 to 1999. As an avid hiker and organic gardener, Dodie is most often found outside with the plants and enjoys sharing her knowledge of herbs and their uses with anyone who ventures to Rivendale Ranch.
